ERIKA LOBO
Founder
I’m a Costa Rican, born and raised in San Ramón, Alajuela.
I’m an industrial engineer, passionate about designing and improving processes, and the process of creating a safe and comfortable experience abroad in Costa Rica is no exception.
I started traveling to Tamarindo, Guanacaste back in 2014 and instantly fell in love with the area. I’ve been on Costa Rica’s Gold Coast ever since, working in the tourism industry and gardening before starting Tico Be Like in 2020.
sadly, I’ve seen many foreigners come and go during my time here, often for the same reasons, which I have always found really unfortunate.
as a hopeless romantic, I’ve also gained valuable insights into expat life through a past relationship with a canadian expat and his european family, who lived and ran a vacation rental business in the area.
all of this, has played a role in shaping Tico Be Like and enhancing the service we provide to foreigners interested in Costa Rica.
I am a Costa Rican, born and raised. I am a Spanish teacher who graduated from the University of Costa Rica.
I have worked for 19 years as a Spanish educator for the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Education (MEP).
my university studies in the Spanish language are complemented by an academic master’s degree in Latin American Literature from the University of Costa Rica.
for five years, I have also worked for the educational program USAC (University Studies Abroad Consortium), sponsored in my country by the University of Costa Rica, which focuses on teaching the Spanish language to foreigners.
in my free time, I love reading a good book, listening to music, meditating, running, or just walking around and getting some fresh air. poetry and writing, in general, are also my passion.

I am a Costa Rican, born and raised, and also Erika’s best friend.
I’ve been passionate about words and sentences since I was a child, which is why I became an English teacher.
learning this language and teaching others has been a rewarding experience, opening up many opportunities for me over the years.
another reason I needed to learn English is that my sister and nieces live in the United States, and my nieces don’t speak spanish very well.
I love having the opportunity to teach them spanish vocabulary, common phrases, and Tico slang. we work on this often with real-life situations, as they will visit Costa Rica one day.
I’m also a cook at heart and have formal education in this field.
